Tottenham Complete Signing Of Benfica Star Midfielder

January 16th, 2020 by admin

Tottenham have signed midfielder Gedson Fernandes on loan from Benfica for 18 months.

The 21-year-old made his debut for Benfica last season and Spurs have the option to make his signing permanent at the end of the loan period.

Fernandes won the Portuguese title with Benfica last season and has played 53 times for the club.

He is Tottenham’s first signing since the appointment of manager Jose Mourinho.

Fernandes, who has two caps for Portugal, said he will settle in London alongside family who have already made the move.

“It’s a hard story. My family, they came to London because in Portugal, work is very hard and it’s very difficult to find work,” said Fernandes.

“They did not have a brilliant life but they have a good life here and this is one more motivation for me to be here today. They will help me to settle here.

“For me, it’s one big dream to come to this big club. This is a fantastic challenge that I have accepted and I have to win my challenge.”

Man United Star Pogba To Quit Club In The Summer (Full Story)

January 16th, 2020 by admin

Paul Pogba is likely to leave Manchester United this summer with Real Madrid and Juventus both chasing the midfielder, according to Sky in Germany.

The 26-year-old France midfielder would prefer to join Zinedine Zidane’s side in Spain, per the same source.

United want to keep Pogba at least until the end of the season due to a lack of replacements available on the market in January.

But a summer deal will be difficult to conclude for any club, with United understood to want a fee in the region of £150m for the World Cup winner.

There is also a complex relationship between the club and Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola, who brought him back to Old Trafford from Juve in 2016.

The player, who was a United youth graduate, also signed a five-year contract when he rejoined that contains the option to extend it by a further year until 2022.

Pogba said last summer that he was thinking of leaving the club for “a new challenge” and Raiola also said “everyone knows the willingness of Paul to move on” – but a transfer did not materialise.

Any deal for the figures United are understood to want will be hindered by Pogba’s lack of appearances. He is presently recovering from an ankle operation and will not be back until after the winter break.

So far this season the midfielder has made just eight appearances in all competitions – six at the start of the campaign and two more in December after a 10-week lay-off due to an ankle problem

Chelsea Striker Set To Quit Club This Weekend

January 16th, 2020 by admin

Giroud will sign a two-year contract at San Siro, with the Blues set to receive €6.5million.

The France striker has been restricted to just five Premier League appearances under Frank Lampard.

Giroud, 33, finds himself behind Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi in the pecking order.

Speaking on Giroud’s future last week, Lampard said: “With Oli, the situation is if it’s right for everybody, first and foremost for us as a club because he’s under contract, then we’ll look at whether he can leave the club.

“He’s been a great professional here, trained brilliantly, so I hold him in a lot of high regard for that. ‘But nothing is done yet.”

Solskjaer Speaks On Man United Winning Premier League Next Season

January 16th, 2020 by admin

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has said his aim is to challenge for the Premier League title next season, even though he admits it may not be realistic.

The last time the Red Devils won the league was in 2012/2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Currently, United are in fifth place and 27 points off leaders, Liverpool.

Last season, they finished 32 points behind eventual champions Manchester City.

Ahead of his side’s visit to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday, Solskjaer said that catching up to the Premier League’s elite, has to be the goal.

“That is the aim, of course,” Solskjaer told reporters.

“I’m not saying it is a realistic one. We are behind and a fair rate behind the top one now, who we play on Sunday and we’ll see where we are against them.

“But with a few signings, with the improvement these are making, in the next couple of years we want to do that.

“Supporters and the club alike are not happy with not challenging for the top position in the league. That is where we feel we should be and many of today’s supporters have lived that period where we won the league consistently.”

Tottenham Hotspur playmaker, Christian Eriksen has agreed on a personal term with Inter Milan to join Antonio Conte’s men in this January’s transfer window, according to Sky Sport Italia.

Inter have now entered into talks with Spurs in a bid to finalise a transfer fee for Eriksen.

The Serie A giants have made an offer of £8.5million for the midfielder, but Tottenham are holding out for a fee closer to £17million and discussion between the two clubs could continue until the end of the month.

Eriksen’s current deal at Spurs will expire at the end of the season.

The Denmark international has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Inter Milan in the past few weeks.

The 27-year-old has scored 69 goals in over 300 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side since joining the club from Ajax in 2013.

Real Madrid President Finally Speaks On Signing Pogba

January 16th, 2020 by admin

Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, has joked that he has never even heard of Paul Pogba, when asked about their interest in the Manchester United midfielder:

Pogba, 26, has long been linked with a move to Madrid.

The France international has also made no secret of his desire to play under his compatriot Zinedine Zidane at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Zidane himself has talked up the move several times.

It is understood senior players and officials at United are now resigned to losing Pogba, despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s insistence that the midfielder remains a key part of his plans.

Amid the speculation, Madrid president, Perez feigned ignorance when he was asked about the club’s chances of wrapping up a deal.

“I don’t know who Pogba is?” Perez replied with a smile following Madrid’s Spanish Super Cup triumph over Atletico Madrid in Saudi Arabia.

See The Ex Footballer Who Is Now Driving For Uber And Selling Books After Being Exiled From His Country

January 16th, 2020 by admin

urkish striker Sukur, 48, lives in America having been exiled for opposing his country’s hardline president Recep Erdogan.

Sukur says his dad has also been thrown in jail and his assets frozen – driving him to the brink of despair in the US and forcing him to use any means available to grind out a living.

He opened a cafe and bakery called Tuts, where the house specials are dishes like Turkish sausage and Greek-style pancakes, in the wealthy area of Palo Alto in Silicon Valley, on the outskirts of San Francisco.

But it had to close in December 2018 and was replaced by a Turkish restaurant.

The Uefa Cup winner and World Cup semi-finalist said: “I drive for Uber and I sell books. I am starting to work now.

“Everyone that has a connection with me has financial troubles.

“I don’t have anything left. I have tens of millions of dollars of property in Turkey, but everything is confiscated.

“Erdogan took everything from me: my right to freedom, my right to express myself, my right to work.

“My wife’s boutique was stoned, my children were harassed and my father sent to jail.

“When I left for the US, my father was locked up and my assets taken.”

Sukur is widely regarded as Turkey’s greatest ever footballer with 52 goals from 112 caps and he also played for Inter Milan, Torino, Parma and Galatasaray back home.

Ex-Gala boss Graeme Souness took him to Blackburn but his Ewood Park spell was hampered by a broken leg.

Sukur insists he still loves his country – just not its leader.

He said: “I am an enemy of the government, not the state and not the Turkish nation. I love our flag, our country.

Mesut Ozil Speaks On His Hard Time Under Former Arsenal Boss Unai Emery

January 16th, 2020 by admin

Ozil insists he is happy under Mikel Arteta and suggested the former club captain has a better connection with the dressing room.

The former Real Madrid midfielder, whose £350,000-a-week contract ends at the end of next season, has been linked with a move to Fenerbahce but made clear he is going nowhere.

“I am very pleased with my contract that will continue here this year and the year after.

“I can’t tell you what the future will bring, I’m excited about the future, but I don’t know what’s going to happen.

“I had a hard time, especially with the previous coach Unai Emery, but now everything has changed, and I am very happy with everything. I play regularly and everything goes well.

“Arteta, as I said in my previous interviews, it was surprising to many people that he adopted the club in such a short time. He’s doing a good job. He’s hungry for success.

“Everything about him is positive. Arteta’s story is a bit different because I don’t remember when she quit football, but it hasn’t been over that long. In this way, players can understand more easily,” Ozil said, according to quotes reported by the UK Mirror.
